QUESTION: What will my Child learn in the Basic Skill Program?

ANSWER: New skaters progress through 8 levels of the program beginning with Basic 1. Skaters are tested periodically through out the season and progress after displaying the ability to perform required elements. CLICK HERE FOR A LIST OF THE BASIC SKILLS ELEMENTS

QUESTION: Are there any resources online for parents to get more information about figure skating?

ANSWER: Start at http://www.usfigureskating.org/content.asp?menu=parents US Figure Skating has some great resource for both parents and skaters.

QUESTION: How much will I have to pay for the 1st year skater program, what will my child need, and when are the lesson?

ANSWER:

· Those living in the City of Alpena or Alpena Township will need to pay $40.00 ( $10.00 US Figure Skating Membership and $30.00 for the AFSC volunteer fee ). All others will have to pay an additional $85.00 for the County Assessment fee for a total of $125.00.

· Besides figure skates, skater should wear warm comfortable clothing that does not restrict their movement. Since the rink is cool skaters may also want to wear a warm coat, hat and gloves. If parents wish young children may wear a helmet.

· Lessons for basic skaters are from 6:00 to 6:30 Monday and Thursday beginning October 14th. CLICK HERE for the skate night schedule and CLICK HERE for the season calendar

 

Through the generous support of MPAC 1st time skaters receive $396.00 worth of Ice time and instruction. AFSC is also waving the annual AFSC Membership of $75.00 saving 1st time skaters and their families $471.00.
